Cash boost for groups

COMMUNITY organisations in Chagford received a welcome boost recently, thanks to funding from the town’s annual agricutural show.

Chris Smallwood, president of the Chagford Agricultural and Horticultural Show for 2017, presented cheques to the recipients of the newly created Chagford Community Fund.

The show’s board of directors voted to give a percentage of last year’s profits to a community fund to be distributed to organisations within the Chagford Show district.

This year’s recipients included Chagford Jubilee Hall, Chagford Education and Leisure Trust, South Zeal Scouts, Postbridge Village Hall, Chagfarm, Devon Young Farmers Cheriton Bishop, Chagford Bowling Club, Chagford Youth Theatre, Moretonhampstead Information Centre, Providence School Charity, Chagford Film Festival and Lustleigh Orchard Pre-School.

This summer will be the show’s 117th year of offering a unique mix of farming, crafts and horticulture to the people of Chagford district and further afield.

This year’s Chagford Show is on August 17, at Mill End Fields, Chagford.
