OKEHAMPTON Running Club were up to the challenge at running events near and far over the past few weeks.
ORCs (Coe group) runners took on the Run Exe 5K achieving some impressive results - Robert Kelly 18 minutes 06 seconds, Geoffrey Hill 18.15 and Graham Byant 18.28.
This was followed by some members competing in a new race, the Lydford Dash. Described as a nicely undulating five miles cross Country this was apparently ‘a beast of a course’ according to one member.
The overall winner was club member Andrew James Vernon with Janet White scooping the 65+ age category win.
ORC was represented at local Park Runs by John Binns running at Tamar Lakes and Margaret Jarvis and Jane Richardson running at Barnstaple. Margaret not only won her 60-64 age category but achieved a personal best of 26.27 for that course. Jane also won her 65-69 age category.
The Cosdon Hill race on Sunday was the first of ORC’s fell races for this season. The 3.2 mile race is a gruelling up and down effort starting and finishing in Belstone village.
For the second year running the overall winner was Rob Hicks with Paul Crease taking second. Other titles were also taken by ORC members with Charlie Collyer taking first female 40, Mike Baker, first male 50 and Janet White, despite having tired legs from the Lydford Dash the day before, took first female 60.
Okehampton Run in the Park results of July 2 - Under 11 years Samuel Carling, winner of the 2.5k and Ray Lawrence as winner of the 5k in times of 11.45 and 19.25 respectively.
