THE Okehampton Ladies Tennis ‘A ‘ team played Seaton C ladies at home this week in division five in the Exeter and District League.
Perhaps inspired by Wimbledon the home team played some excellent tennis. Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herrod-Taylor cruised to an early victory 6-0 and 6-1. The match was not as one sided as the score suggests and several games went to deuce but the Okehampton pair were able to win the important points. In their second match with confidence high, Jackie and Angela dominated the court and won 6-1, 6-1.
Okehampton’s second couple Kath Bolt and Penny Holman started well and took the first set 6-3, they were narrowly beaten in the second 4-6, but battled well in the tie break but eventually lost 7-10. It was a similar story in the second set, Kath and Penny won the first 7-6, lost the second 3-6, but dug deep in the resulting tie break and eventually took it 10-6. It was an excellent all round performance with Okehampton winning the fixture by 7 points to 3.
This keeps them in second place in division five. They are seven points behind top placed Teign Valley B but have three games in hand.
