AFTER the success of Buckets in 2016, Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Young Company return to the stage with The Blue Road on Wednesday, August 23 to Saturday, August 26 in The Drum.

The forest. The wake of an unnamed crisis. A group of young people work to make sense of what happened, what it means, and what they will do now.

The Blue Road is an exciting new play by acclaimed writer Laura Lomas exploring memory, loss, living in the aftermath and our capacity to begin again.

Commissioned by Dundee Rep, Derby Theatre, Royal and Derngate and Theatre Royal Plymouth, The Blue Road is an inspiring project which will see this brand new play premiere in four venues across the UK.

Maxine who is a member of the Young Company said: ‘It’s really exciting to have a new play written for us and the three other youth theatres, it’s completely unique and it will be interesting to see how different the productions are.

‘We are exploring movement and every day we up the level of intensity and explore new ideas.’

The Blue Road is performed by a 16 strong cast of 14 to 20 year olds along with three young stage managers who are all part of the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Young Company.

The Theatre Royal Plymouth Young Company offers workshops and performance opportunities throughout the year for five to 21 year olds.

The company works with professional practitioners to develop numerous skills for the stage or behind the scenes.

Jane Pawson, Young People’s Producer said: ‘Working alongside three other theatres who share a passion for quality work for young performers has been inspiring.

‘The project has aimed to put young people’s voices at the heart of a new play. We are the final group to perform this new work and we can’t wait to get started.’
