VENN HOUSE Venn House is set in large landscaped gardens where residents enjoy walks, with accommodation in either the Jacobean Mansion wing or the Coach House. A move to a care home can seem daunting at first, but rest assured, registered manager Sandie Baskerville and the dedicated staff team will ensure your stay is as enjoyable and relaxed as possible and you can be safe in the knowledge you have chosen a ‘premium’ home in the West Devon area. Good home cooking is provided by our cooks Carol and Sue, including home made cakes from the Aga plus special diets are catered for. We look forward to you viewing our ‘special home’ at anytime and we also invite you to spend the day with us, to take lunch as our guest and see what we have to offer first hand. Venn House is rated a ‘Good Home’ by the Care Quality Commission.
ANN POINTER Wills There is a long standing misconception that when you are married everything will pass on death to the surviving spouse. This is not necessarily true and part of your Estate could end up passing to your children which can cause problems for the surviving spouse. For instance the surviving spouse may find themselves deciding whether to buy the children out or add them to the deeds for the property. Wills are very important regardless of your circumstances. You may have millions, you may have nothing but a Will allows you to state who the guardians of your minor children are to be on your death. This can then avoid a Court battle between the grandparents over custody. Furthermore, if you are unmarried and cohabit with another as a couple, did you know that your partner would not have an automatic right to your Estate. In this situation they would have to make a claim against your Estate regardless of how long you have been together. There are so many issues and circumstances a valid Will can cover if worded correctly.

YELVERTON NURSING HOME The Yelverton Nursing and Residential Home held their annual Christmas party on the 14th of December. The residents, their families and friends enjoyed a lovely buffet prepared by the kitchen staff and also enjoyed a selection of wines and soft drinks. We sang a selection of Christmas carols accompanied by the piano played by our activity co- ordinator and held a prize drawer for a show later in the New Year. At the end of November the residents enjoyed a bus trip to Endsleigh Garden Centre for some Christmas shopping and a cream tea. We had 2 separate trips to ensure that all the residents who wished to attend could. This trip was enjoyed by all who attended residents and staff alike. Leading up to Christmas, Horrabridge Primary School visited the home and sang carols for the residents and we also had our first Pantomime – Jack in the Beanstalk which was given by ‘Party Time Productions’ and was very popular with all those who attended. Social events are an important part of our life at the Home and the residents really enjoy these occasions and are looking forward to our activities for 2012.
TAVISTOCK AREA SUPPORT SERVICES Transport to …..helping people get out and about
2011 saw yet another busy year for TASS transport, providing more trips, supporting more groups, transporting more people to their medical appointments than ever before.
The year started and finished with a Trip to The Falmouth Beach Hotel but during the year we have eaten our way through countless Sunday Lunches, enjoyed Folk Festivals, visited new places and made new friends! The Hospital Car Service has made sure people get to their medical appointments on time and has covered thousands of miles. All in all our transport service has helped more people to get out and about.
We must not forget the role The Anchorage Centre plays in providing day activities, with even more people coming through it’s doors and how important the Nine Drop Inns are that meet weekly in Village and Church Halls.
ALL the activities and transport are delivered by a core of Volunteers, who are the unsung heroes of our Community and 2012 will be no different, with New activities and services being introduced and even more ‘Out and About’ trips being offered (Isles of Scilly, Music of the Night, Autumn Break in Falmouth etc. To find out more about the wide range of Activities that are available at The Anchorage Centre or how YOU can help by Volunteering pop in, phone our main office on 01822 616958 or Transport Office 01822 617525 or just visit www.tasstavistock.org.uk
