Store boost to rally fundraisers
Wednesday, 06 June 2012
A TEAM that successfully completed a cross-country driving challenge has received a donation of £100 from an Okehampton opticians.
The quartet, sponsored by Okehampton Specsavers, dressed up as clowns to complete the May Gurney Rally in order to raise much needed funds for Kids’ Kidney Research.
Using less than £200, the team purchased a second-hand car to drive from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back within 72 hours.
Prior to setting off the team was also given an envelope with 20 different landmarks to visit on the trip.
Kath Dandy, store director of Okehampton Specsavers, says: ‘We always look for local fundraising events to get involved with, and the Gurney Rally is an exciting, challenging activity that we were delighted to support.
Michael Young, one of the team members that completed the challenge, says: ‘The charity is something I’m very passionate about and can relate to personally as I have a son affected by kidney failure.
‘I have witnessed first-hand how donations to Kids Kidney Research help individuals like my son and the charity provides fantastic support to parents through a difficult time.
‘We’re very pleased to have completed the challenge and the donation from Okehampton Specsavers has really helped with our fundraising so far.’
