Abseil challenge for the baby unit
Wednesday, 13 June 2012
A WEST Devon woman will take part in a daring cliff abseil this weekend, in a bid to raise money for a baby care unit.
Fiona Maddock from Bere Alston will be abseiling 50 metres down the Avon Gorge on Saturday in aid of Bristol Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Fiona said: ‘When our daughter Hannah was born with serious breathing difficulties, within minutes the room filled with specialists who rushed her off to the neonatal intensive care unit.
‘We were left wondering whether those would be the only few minutes we would ever spend with our precious daughter.
‘That was when I learned to appreciate just how much these specialist units mean to people like my husband and I.
‘The care and professionalism shown was just what we needed at a very traumatic time for us.
‘Special care baby units, especially our nearest one, have also blessed the lives of several of my good friends and their children.
‘This charity therefore really means a lot to me and your donation will help Bristol SCBU continue its fantastic work.’
Fiona has also been raising money for SCBU by selling gingerbread babies and doing balloon modelling.
Anyone who would like to support her cause can visit her online sponsorship page at www.justgiving.com/fionamaddock or visit the mini market at Bere Alston Parish Hall on Saturday between 11.30am and 2.30pm where there will be a collection and sponsorship forms.
