Thursday, 11 June 2009

The annual Tamar Valley Pool League presentation night took place on Saturday June 6 at the Red and Black Club, Tavistock.
The 2008-2009 Winter League saw a total of 319 players playing for 32 teams in the Tamar Valley, stretching from the Coryton Arms in St. Mellion, up to the Prince of Wales in Princetown.
League chairman Tony Stephenson presented the trophies to a packed house, ably assisted by Nigel Martin (vice chairman), Richard Wright (league secretary), Dave Houghton (competitions secretary) and Hallam Riggs (tournaments director), with assistants Lorraine Stacey (treasurer) and Hannah Rowlands looking after the raffle.
For the third year running, the Legion were crowned winners of the Premier Division, nine points clear of Victoria SC A. Gunnislake Social Club pipped Market Inn B to the post in division one, finishing just one point ahead of their rivals. Division two saw Victoria SC B finish four points clear of Callington SC.
In the competitions, the Legion won the Knock-out Cup for the second year running, beating Victoria SC 8-7 in what proved to be a very close final. The Supplementary Cup was won by Prince of Wales, who beat Gunnislake SC 8-5 in their final.
Prize winners in the individual competitions and one day tournaments included Wayne Downham, Mike Hunt, Adam Chidzoy, Mike & Andy Symons-Rowe, Mike O’Hare, Adam Hicks, Mark Chubb, Scott Dent, Paul Johnson, Nathan Patrick, Dan Credicott, Matt Taylor, Mark Greaves, Nigel Martin, Trevor Hewison, Susie Bunkum, Sally Perkins, Darron Luckham, Jim Reddecliff, Kenny Corden, Tony Stephenson, Al Stewart, Helen Wood, Michelle Stewart, Hallam Riggs and Nigel Brimacombe.
Jon Cox was presented with a special recognition award for his work as chairman for four years, whilst Howard Moule received an award for dedication to his team, having played for the Duke of York for 35 years.
The league would like to thank all its supporters, sponsors, venues and most of all the players who take part every week.
