Prizes for plots large and small
Wednesday, 21 July 2010
PRIZES were presented to award-winning members of Lamerton Allotment Association at a barbecue held in the village recently.
The cups were presented by Allan Cavill, south west regional director of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners and Les Bennett, a local prize winning gardener.
Jess Evans and Nick Andrews won the best full plot and Steve Howells the best small plot.
The Association acquired allotments in the village at the end of March this year and from a large empty field, the members have now created 23 productive allotment gardens.
Elaine Price, secretary of the association, said: ‘It has been very hard work but the Association was fortunate to be able to purchase machinery and a communal shed with a grant from Lamerton Parish Council.
‘The local school has also been given a plot to encourage budding gardeners, so we hope that the enthusiasm of everyone involved in the project will bode well for the future.’
