THE 2017 Okehampton Lanterns Procession proved a big hit on Friday night, led to Simmons Park by ‘The Dartmoor Ram’.
Throughout half term week, dozens of people turned out to lantern making workshops at the Wren Music HQ in Ebenezer Hall ahead of the procession on Friday evening.
Paul Wilson of Wren Music said he was ‘delighted with the response from the community’, with many of those who made lanterns taking part in the procession from St James’ Chapel to Simmons Park.
The event was led by ‘The Dartmoor Ram’, a spectacular 15-foot high moving lantern sculpture, being circled by eagles and the moon. As well as the glow of the lanterns, the banging of drums and singing gave the event a dynamic feel.
