OKEHAMPTON author Richard Williamson is launching his new book 'Whispering Grass: A Chagford Tale', with a book signing at St James Antique Shop in Okehampton on Saturday June 11.

Mr Williamson has a long association with Chagford. He moved there in 1954, following two years' National Service. He met and married his wife Betty in the town, and launched a career as an antique dealer, auctioneer and valuer from a small shop in the square. Richard and Betty now live in Okehampton.

The novel takes place in the immediate aftermath of the second world war, and follows the disappearance of an 18th century cabinet from a Dartmoor country house in Chagford.

The quest to discover the cabinet's fate is taken up by Henry Wesson, but when he discovers his father may have had something to do with the disappearance, he endeavours to clear his family name.

The signing takes places from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
