FIONA McGahey of Okehampton Community Hospital has been recognised as a 'Healthcare Hero' by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust. The Healthcare Hero Awards, running for the second year, recognise staff who deserve to be rewarded for going above and beyond the call of duty. Fiona received a commendation at the awards ceremony on April 24. She is the complex care team co-ordinator at the hospital and was nominated for the award by colleague Amy Souster. She nominated Fiona for her dedication, patience and skill in her role. Roger French, chairman of the healthcare trust, said: 'We employ about 4,500 staff across half of Devon and they all do a fantastic job day in, day out to ensure patients and their families receive the very best care and support. 'That we are a high-performing trust is entirely down to the dedication and excellence of our staff, both on the frontline and behind the scenes. While it gives us great pride to receive letters, e-mails and phone calls every day thanking our staff for their excellent work, the Healthcare Hero Awards have offered us the perfect opportunity to properly recognise and reward those who go that extra mile.'
