CHAGFORD school. Built in the 30s, a crumbling old building full of asbestos with leaking roofs and ill fitting windows. A maze of corridors and dead ends, all poorly lit. There are cracks in the walls, the IT system needs updating. It's cold in winter, hot in summer. Toilets for staff and kids are inadequate.  All points — and there are more — brought out by two full surveys. And Devon County Council made it clear that funding for Devon is tight with over 200 schools and only £7.6 million a year. Other schools could get more of that funding if we have a new build. The offer from the EFA is a good deal, a golden egg, a golden ticket in these tough economic times and I'm shocked that some with a very narrow mind set have tried to stop this process.  A new school will take over 200 pupils which means more funding for books and equipment maybe even more staff; something Mel Stride has been fighting hard for since 2009, as Devon has been underfunded for years compared to urban areas. Our kids deserve a new school and a bit of that 'feel good factor' too! A new build, given all the correct facts, is the only sensible option for the pupils and the school's long term future in Chagford. Gareth Griffiths Whiddon Down.
