A WEST Devon village lived up to its reputation for having one of the best fireworks display in the country, when it put on a spectacular show last weekend.
More than 2,000 spectators attended the Sticklepath Fireshow, with many coming from across the country to watch the annual event.
This year's show was rated the most creative bonfire night celebration nationwide and was in the top five of the overall category in the NatWest bank's customer magazine.
Young and old from the community got together to create a magnificent artistic fireshow and performance, entitled The Bemused Triangle.
A puppet show was performed by children from the village and surrounding area, who had got involved with workshops prior to the event.
The puppet show was performed on a huge outdoor stage, which was burned when the show was over.
Chairman of the fireshow, Janice Goodwin, said the whole event was a great success.
She said: 'Despite the damp weather, the audience participation was fantastic, making it really rewarding for the children in the cast'.
The Bemused Triangle was made up of the man-made stage, two seven-foot giant Easter Island 'heads', as well as a mermaid and island, with a ship which had crashed into it.
Visitors also enjoyed the fireworks display finale, which was followed by a volcanic eruption of fire.
The fireworks were staged by Tavistock company Two Tigers, which scooped second place in a fireworks championships event this year and which 'goes the extra mile' for the Sticklepath show, according to organisers.
Artistic director of the show Hilary Gillespie said: 'We were very lucky to have the weather because there was such a wet lead up to the event.
'The whole evening was fantastic and it was great to see the audience getting involved and shouting out the answers to questions we gave them.
'There were also mutant Vikings, who performed the 'YMCA' , and several people from the audience joined in with that too.
'It was a really wonderful evening and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves.'
Every year the fireshow has a new theme and storyline to entertain the flocks of visitors who come to see the display.
