SPREYTON'S new community shop was officially opened by Devon county councillor James McInnes on Saturday, much to the delight of villagers.
The purpose-built shop cost £100,000 to construct with grants and local fundraising, including the sale of shares to villagers for £10 each.
The previous post office and stores closed in July 2007, following the death of sub-postmistress Jean Underhill, and a campaign was started a year later to get a new facility.
The new store has a part-time manager and a band of volunteers and is open seven days a week.
