THE Starlight Ladies of Okehampton are celebrating following their successful Pimms and Petals Ball in August.
Hundreds of people turned out for the formal ball at Okehampton Showground on Friday August 12, enjoying a champagne reception, a sumptuous four-course meal, music from Steve Wonnacott and a disco from Richard Hill.
The event raised a staggering £7,800 for Cancer Research UK.
Wendy Raymond, one of the organisers, was bowled over by the result: 'I cannot thank the people of Okehampton enough for their fantastic support.
'I have been overwhelmed by their kindness and also the generosity of the many businesses and individuals who sponsored us or donated auction and raffle prizes.
'Without the help of the committee around me who spent hours organising the many aspects of staging a ball, I could not have done it. We had a great night and raised a substantial amount of money for a cause very close to our hearts.'
Sylvia Arlett, area manager for Cancer Research UK said: 'I cannot thank Wendy and her girls enough. The money they have raised will help people with breast cancer in Devon enormously.
'To have raised such a large sum of money is incredible in these hardened times, they are absolute stars.'
