A BAKER from Okehampton is to represent the town at the third World Pasty Championships next month.

Simon Taylor is a night baker at Endecotts in the town. He is entering the championships at the Eden Project with his 'Curry in a Hurry' pasty. A traditional shaped pasty filled with chicken curry and rice, the pastry is made with coriander to give the pasty extra flavour.

He moved to Okehampton last year to take up a night baker's job at the bakery. While living in Cornwall, Simon worked as a pastry chef in some of Cornwall's biggest hotels, including the Falmouth Beach Hotel and the Falmouth Hotel.

The championships take place on Saturday, March 1. The competition draws entries from across the globe, and one of the world's top pastry chefs, Martin Chiffers, will be making an appearance.
