SOUTH Zeal is gearing itself up for a busy weekend. Friday night is the annual charity summer ball where fine food and live music will be enjoyed by 300 guests in a grand marquee on the Recreation Ground in the centre of the village. On Saturday July 5 at 2pm Zale Fayre kicks off for a great family day out with a barbecue, bouncy castle, face painting, Reptobug with snakes, spiders, scorpions and giant bugs, cream teas, children's disco and a grand summer draw in which you could win £100. There will be table top stalls (tel 840886) and many other activities for all ages. On Sunday there will be an informal act of worship at 10am in the marquee. This will be followed by jazz on the lawn in the afternoon, a perfect setting to watch the annual cricket match while the children entertain themselves on the bouncy castle. In addition to Zale Fayre, on Saturday and Sunday, there will be the annual beer festival with a large selection of real ales from around the West Country and a full bar inside the marquee. This year it is also a stop on the ten pubs walk. The South Zeal Recreation Ground is fundraising for a new playground which is desperately needed in South Zeal. The present playground is old, worn and out of date.
