JUST a week after winning four medals at the British Transplant Games, Spreyton's Wendy Sincock came home from the European Transplant Games in Krakow with six medals. Wendy, aged 55, competed in seven swimming events at the European games in Krakow, held in August, winning medals in six events — one gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Wendy said that the team relay events – in which she claimed her two bronze medals – were particularly exciting events. She said: 'The whole experience was fab. The UK team of swimmers came away with 27 medals. 'The opening ceremony was magical, as we paraded through the old square of Krakow, 28 teams with 800 competitors. The square was heaving with members of the public all wanting to understand about the games.' As well as her success in Krakow, Wendy won four medals in the British Transplant Games. She has been hard at training for the two events at Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton with Nick Bowls. 2013/14 was a record year for organ donation and transplantation in the UK, with more than 4,600 transplants carried out for the first time ever. The figures show a 10% increase on the number of transplants performed in the last financial year. Despite the increases in the number of people benefiting from a transplant, around three people die each day across the UK due to a shortage of organs.
