A DEVON charity specialising in rescuing and rehoming unwanted dogs is on the hunt for fundraisers for a unique appeal.
K9focus, based in Torrington, recently rescued a one year-old rottweiller cross, Bruno. Upon a routine visit to the vet shortly after his rescue it was discovered he has 'developmental cataracts', a condition that will slowly rob him of his sight unless an operation is performed.
The operation would cost around £3,000, and the organisation are looking for volunteers across the county to organise fundraising events in an effort to save Bruno's sight as part of the 'Sight for Bruno' campaign.
Charity trustee Lynne Hall said: 'He is a very loving dog who has lots of energy and loves nothing more than romping around in the field, rolling in the grass and tackling the agility course which we have. Sadly we have not been able to find a permanent home for him.
'As a young dog the operation Bruno needs would not be difficult but will cost in the region of £3,000. We think he is worth it.'
K9focus recently received status as a registered charity, and aims to prevent the destruction of healthy abandoned dogs.
Volunteers give their free time to run the organisation, and their work is fully funded by donations from the public. They are always on the lookout for new volunteers from across the area, including in Okehampton.
In the last 12 months the charity has re-homed 38 dogs and rescued more than 50.
