Okehampton Argyle First Team Match Report

Okehampton Argyle 1

Truro City Reserves 2

ARGYLE put in a lacklustre performance against the league's bottom team and looked decidedly rusty after having played only two games in the last two months.

But credit is due to a young Truro side who adapted better to the difficult conditions and deserved their victory which moves them closer to Okehampton in the league table.

The match was only six minutes old when Alex Wren fired in an inch perfect free kick for Okehampton from wide on the left and Ben Ferguson slotted home at the second attempt.

At this stage, the home supporters were anticipating a big win but Argyle lost their composure and allowed Truro back into the game.

After 20 minutes a shot from close in came back off the home post and Argyle's keeper Harry Geering did brilliantly to turn the follow up attempt over the bar.

But with Truro beginning to play the better football, they were level within four minutes. Having conceded a silly free kick in their own half, Argyle were slow to organise themselves. Truro rolled the ball to Paddy Crich who blasted home a superb shot from fully 30 yards.

The visitors had the better of the remainder of the first half and were unlucky not to take the lead when a shot rebounded from the Okehampton bar.

The second half was an even affair but it was the visitors who got the vital goal. This came half way through when a fine move down the left saw the ball played in to Barry Leete who finished clinically from just inside the box. Argyle brought on attacking substitutes Steve Williams, Dale Chadwick and Brad Ausden in an attempt to save the game but Truro's defence held firm against some persistent Okehampton attacks and in the end they deserved their victory. This was a disappointing performance by Argyle.

It was better news for Argyle thirds; they won 3-0 at home to the Met Office with goals from Ricky Wooldridge, Paul Yip and Darren Gilbert to maintain their promotion push in the Devon and Exeter League.
