Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division One East

Okehampton Argyle 5

Ottery St Mary 0

ARGYLE gained a good three points from this game against a team who had held them to a draw in their opening match of the season. Since then, the visitors have struggled in the League, but they certainly gave Argyle a fright in the early exchanges.

The game opened with an unfortunate injury to an Ottery player after a clumsy tackle from Ed Squire and the visitors were forced to use one of their substitutes within the first five minutes.

Ottery had the better of the first 15 minutes and were unfortunate not to take the lead when a lovely curled shot from Matt Preece came back off the home bar after seven minutes.

Argyle gradually began to improve and take the initiative and on 25 minutes, Adam Mortimer raced on to Luke Alden's headed pass to give Argyle the lead from just inside the box.

Three minutes before half-time, an Okehampton corner was not properly cleared by the visitors' defence and Ricky Wooldridge scored on the half-volley from 25 yards. Two minutes later, Argyle secured the game when Luke Alden tried to go through on his own on the right side of the box. As he took on one too many defenders, the ball broke lose across the goal and Alex Wren rifled it home from 15 yards.

It was all Oke after the interval and they began to play some great attacking football. Four minutes in, Alex Wren set up Will Hawking who made no mistake from close in. Then ten minutes later, more good work from Wren led to Hawking scoring again this time with a good shot from the edge of the box. Argyle continued to press and should have scored more but all they had to show for it was a tremendous shot from Ed Squire that crashed against the Ottery crossbar.

This was another good team performance by Argyle which sees them move to second in the table. Dale Chadwick played well at the centre of the defence but the man of the match award was Steve Madge, who worked tirelessly and unselfishly throughout the game.
