Okehampton Argyle 2

Appledore 2

IN a fiercely competitive match Okehampton showed tremendous team spirit to twice come back from behind and salvage a point. They enjoyed the majority of possession and really deserved all three points.

The first half was even with neither side able to dictate the game, but as the half wore on, Argyle began to make the better openings and Will Hawking tested the visiting keeper with a couple of good efforts. However, the teams went in at the interval level.

In the second half Argyle played down the slope and began to pin Appledore back, but ten minutes in they were caught on the hop when a quick break out by the visitors saw Jason McGinley cross from the right for Ed Yeo to head home a simple goal.

Back came Argyle and they were level five minutes later when a lovely flick-on from Adam Mortimer played Luke Alden in behind the Appledore defence and his low cross from the left was blasted home from close in by substitute Ricky Wooldridge.

Argyle now began to dominate but once again Argyle fell to the sucker punch. Matt Mortimer lost possession deep in his own half and Appledore substitute Hodorowski put Brian Levine clear to restore the visitors' lead.

Argyle responded with real grit and continually forced Appledore back. With ten minutes remaining, Luke Alden brilliantly beat two men wide on the left and fired in a low cross which Ed Squire superbly volleyed home from 15 yards. Argyle spent the last ten minutes pressing for an equaliser and Adam Mortimer was unlucky to be judged offside after rounding the last Appledore defender and firing home.

This was a stirring performance by Okehampton.

Man of the match honours were split between Luke Alden in midfield play and in a deeper role of Rob Clarke.
