THE Chagford Filmmaking Group is holding auditions on Friday July 15 to cast 14 male and female roles for their latest project, 'The Ballad of Mary Whyddon'.
The film will tell the true story of Mary Whyddon, a young bride shot on her wedding day in 1641, as England was on the brink of civil war. No-one was ever charged with her murder, but her tombstone in the chancel of Chagford Parish Church reads 'Behold a matron and yet a maid'.
It is the first project for the group since 2010's 'Sir Lanval', based on the medieval story written for the court of Henry II by Marie de France.
Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, composer and director for the group said: 'After last year's epic French and English cultural exchange, we wanted to return to our Chagford roots and make a film of one of Dartmoor's most poignant folktales.
'It is also the 750th anniversary of our beautiful church, where much of the action takes place.
There are ten roles for women aged between 16 and 75, and four parts for men aged between 20 and 35. Anyone wishing to audition is warmly invited to visit the group's website, http://www.fairytalefilms.co.uk">www.fairytalefilms.co.uk for full details of the parts being cast.
