A WEST Devon resident is celebrating success after being honoured at the South West Learndirect Achievement Awards ceremony.
Lauren Pogodin, from Sticklepath, won the 'Progression Award', which recognises those who have learnt with Learndirect and have gone on to pursue a new career.
She will now represent the South West in the national judging stage this summer, when national winners will be invited to a reception in London later this year.
Lauren, who suffered health problems when she was younger, was bullied at school, which affected her confidence.
She managed to overcome her difficulties and passed the maths entry level three test.
Lauren, who took the course at Pathfinder Learning Centre in Okehampton, said it was the first certificate she had ever won.
She said: 'I feel overwhelmed really, I didn't expect to win it.
'I go to the centre once a week and although I don't find it easy, I find it much better than school as there is always someone on hand to help me.
'My mum and dad are really proud of all that I've achieved.'
Now in their fourth year, the Learndirect Achievement Awards recognise the achievements of people and businesses learning and training with Learndirect, as well as people and centres who support them.
The nominees include learners who have overcome personal difficulties to learn and have gone on to find a job or move up in their career, as well as businesses who have thrived as a result of improving the skills and motivation of their workforce through learndirect.
University for Industry, South West regional performance director, Amy Armstrong, said: 'The Learndirect Achievement Awards provide a great opportunity to celebrate the positive impact learning has on people and businesses throughout the South West.
'The commitment shown by each of today's winners is truly inspirational.
'I hope their achievements will encourage others across the South West to change their lives through learning.'
