OKEHAMPTON and District Cats Protection received a surprise Christmas present from the team at Mole Avon to support their hard work over the festive season.

Store manager Maria Cooper contacted the branch to donate ten large bags of cat litter to help with their Christmas appeal.

The charity launched the appeal following an exceptionally busy year, asking for people to donate unopened or unwanted cat food at drop-off bins placed at businesses in the town.

Pat Sawyer, branch co-ordinator, said: 'With all the cats currently in our care looking for new homes, any gifts like this are very much appreciated.

'I would also like to take the opportunity to thank them for continuing to host a food donation bin, and any other support that Mole Avon have given us during the year.

'The branch would also like to take this chance to thank all the other businesses that host our bins, including Okeford Vets, North Park Vets and the Pet Superstore for all their support.

'Finally we need to thank all those people that have kindly donated food both over Christmas and throughout the year.

'However, the need is still there so if you donate the odd tin or pouch it helps us greatly. People could make it a new year's resolution.'
