OKEHAMPTON Excelsior Silver Band has reason to celebrate after some of its younger members won medals and a cup at the 22nd Bideford Solo and Quartet Contest on Saturday June 9.

Victoria Isaac won the Bideford Town Band Cup for most promising player while Jessica Alexander won a third place medal in the age 10 to 12 category slow melody class.

James Alexander, 14, won a third place medal in the age 17 and under air varie class.

The band expressed thanks to Emily Alexander and Adrian Edwards, who played piano accompaniments, and to Cathy Lovegrobe for the time and effort put in supporting the youngsters playing.

Adjudicator at the contest was Gareth Churcher, musical director of St Keverne youth and senior bands.
