THE third heat of Okehampton Battle of the Bands at the Charter Hall last week saw five more acts entertaining with an eclectic mix of musical styles.
The heat was the last before the grand final in Simmons Park this Saturday, (August 11).
The first band on the night were Plymouth-based The Badland Bandits with their 1980s metal reminiscent of Motley Crew and Guns and Roses getting the evening off to a serious kickstart.
Next up was Sam Dowden who returned to BotB minus his band and 'armed' with just an acoustic guitar. He enthralled the crowd with a natural ease and accomplished musicianship.
Bringing the sound levels back up were Crediton-based Far From The Delta. Playing blues with a rock twist they delivered a raw and gravely grunge blues sound, led by front man J.
40% Proof were the penultimate act and they rocked the crowd, performing covers of well rehearsed rock anthems.
The last band of 2012 were LGM ONE. The new wave Plymouth-based indie rock act offered up a unique sound with a front man alternating between guitar and keyboards.
Winning heat three and joining Dirty Dusk and The Aurora Skies at the Party in the Park final in Simmons Park on August 11 are The Badland Bandits.
Chris Hodgson, the event's chairman said: 'All three heats have been amazingly difficult to judge as the standard of entries this year was higher than has ever been seen.
'Testament to this is the wildcard placement with the judges actually having to award not one but two! Sam Dowden and Pirate Copy will also be playing at the final.
BotB chairman, Chris Hodgson said: 'The Party in the Park has something for everybody, a music-orientated fun family night out.
'As well as the music we have inflatables and laser tag, a licensed bar and food.
'There are five great finalists, comedian Tony King as compere, fire-eaters and headline band Joey and The Lips. Where else, other than in Okehampton, can you enjoy a festival-type atmosphere with superb music for just the price of a donation to our fund?'
The committee expressed thanks to Stevens Estate Agents, Herbs 'n' Spices, Okehampton United Charities and the Plymouth Inn for being the main sponsors for 2012 and all the businesses, organisations and the public in Okehampton that have given their support.'
The Battle of the Bands final starts in Simmons Park on Saturday at 6pm — all are welcome to the family-friendly show.
