CHILDREN at South Zeal Pre-School have taken part in an event to improve their road safety knowledge.

The 'Beep Beep Day' was organised on Tuesday November 23, as part of Road Safety Week.

The project, organised by road safety charity Brake, aims to teach young children and their parents vital road safety knowledge, and calls on drivers to slow down around schools and homes.

Last year, 195 children were killed and 4,188 seriously injured on roads in the country.

Sharon Cooper, leader of the pre-school, said: 'Children were encouraged to wear bright clothing and given plenty of other advice.

'We also took them out on a road safety awareness walk.

'The safety of children is a concern to us here, as around the pre-school we only have pavements half way down the hill, so it can get quite dangerous for the children.'
