Newton Tracey v Belstone

BELSTONE threw away a match-winning position with a disastrous batting collapse. The home side got off to a useful start with a 57-run opening stand in 12 overs between Turner (31) and Nash (21).

The rest of the innings was anchored by a patient knock from Chatham who batted for 85 minutes through the final 24 overs for an unbeaten 48 not out, his most significant partnership being the 43 runs added for the seventh wicket with Brewer (18). David Binns (9-2-27-4) and Andy King were the most successful Belstone bowlers, sharing the last seven wickets to fall, with King taking three in his final over to polish off the innings on 178-9.

Belstone's openers Pete Harlow and Scott Tremain put on a superb 104 runs before Harlow was dismissed by the economical Brewer (9-3-24-3) for 23. Tremain reached his half century in 48 minutes and was eventually fourth out for 76 which included 11 fours and a six. The score was then 119 for four with Hillman in the fourth over of his spell, with two wickets already to his name. He continued to destroy the middle order with another three wickets to finish with 5-14 from eight.

The final wickets soon fell meaning that Belstone had lost all ten for 41 runs, handing Newton Tracey a 33-run victory that had seemed highly unlikely less than an hour before.
