North Devon four Belstone v Braunton THE Belstone juggernaut rolled on last Sunday with a ninth successive victory including five out of five in the North Devon League to consolidate their position at the top of division four. After winning the toss and asking Braunton to bat the well-oiled Belstone attack moved into top gear with seasoned openers Jonathan Parsons (9-4-16-2) and Harry Bushin (7-2-15-1) keeping things tight while making early breakthroughs to leave the home team on 32-3 at the end of their spells. First change Tom Fogerty then ripped out the middle order with three wickets for one run in his first ten balls. Brooks (18) and Johnston (9) began to slowly rebuild the innings but terminal damage was inflicted by Thomas Boother (3-1-5-2) and Callum Mallett (1-0-2-2) to wrap up proceedings for just 70 runs after 30 overs. Although two outstanding diving catches were taken by Brooks and Lugsden, Belstone knocked off the runs with relative ease thanks to an elegantly controlled 36 from Scott Tremain and a final six-boundary flourish in ten minutes from Phil Woods. Belstone (13pts) beat Braunton (6pts) by 4wkts. n This Sunday sees the annual family-friendly C&G All-Stars XI match at Belstone, followed at 10am on Saturday, 18 June by a car boot sale at the ground.
