I Agree with Hilary Davie (Letters May 6) about the litter and rubbish that is scattered along our highways.

This year is the first time I've seen mile after mile of bottles, bags, plastic etc stream along, what is being done to make us more aware of this disgusting behaviour?

These people treat us like idiots. Just to have other people pick up their rubbish does not solve the problem at all. Perhaps we should go the same way as Okehampton — because people are more stressed and uncaring in their attitude they deserve to be kept an eye on at all times, with the instalment of CCTV all over Okehampton.

Maybe lots more concern along our highways is part of the answer, then we could note the number plate and catch the person (name and shame, maybe) for a minimum fine of £1,000 and a chance of losing their driving license. Anyone caught doing over 80mph would get a heavy fine.

This might have two benefits.

1, Less irresponsible drivers on our roads.

2, The national debt wiped out in a couple of years.

Comments please.
