The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired Okehampton theatre performance by drama group Get Changed Theatre Company was pronounced a resounding success.
The production, called A Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Inspired Buttery Biscuit Based Saga, was staged for the first time at Okehampton’s Charter Hall on November 5 and was reported to be the group’s ’best show yet.’
Jules Walker, artistic director at Get Changed Theatre, said: ’It went amazingly well. The cast really enjoyed it. They were so happy to be back on stage, making people laugh. They were bowing and bowing and it was such a celebration. On of the best things was the whole cast singing Viva Okehampton at the end.’
It was a good turnout for the group’s first production since the covid lockdowns, with fifty people attending the performance, including Okehampton’s mayor Bob Tolley.
Afterwards, many in the audience commented on the bright and vibrant scenery and described the performance as ’the best show yet.’
Next on the cards is a ’little Christmas wintery offering at the end of January’ said Mrs Walker.
The Get Changed Theatre was formed in 1995 for people in mid and west Devon with learning disabilities. Originally the group comprised of only seven but today there are over fifty members.
