TO mark National Fitness Day on Friday, September 26, Parklands Leisure Centre is offering free sessions to local residents. To kick-start the day's events the centre will be running an hour's early morning circuits class from 7am with all ages and abilities welcome. For those more aquatically inclined, the centre will offer free lane swimming from 12pm to 1.30pm, and there will also be free badminton sessions from 3.30pm to 5pm. With such a variety of activities running throughout the day the centre hopes to attract as many people as possible. National Fitness Day is the largest celebration of physical activity in the UK. Parklands is just one of hundreds of clubs, parks and leisure centres across the country to offer free classes to the public. Jon Smith, contract manager at Parklands Okehampton, said: 'This is a brilliant opportunity for anyone looking to boost their fitness or try a new sport. 'National Fitness Day is a fantastic occasion geared at offering people free access to classes and facilities. 'There's nothing to lose so come down and experience the great atmosphere for yourself. 'Research shows that you're much more likely to continue an exercise regime if you're being active in a large group as opposed to individually — that's why 1life is teaming up with UKactive for national fitness day — to give people an opportunity to boost their fitness, meet new people and get inspired.'
