OKEHAMPTON Community Archive is holding its first public awareness show this month.

The aim of the event is to attract as many people as possible and for them to participate in compiling a 'living history' archive of Okehampton, by recounting their memories and experiences.

The archive will cover the last 110 years and will be accessible to all.

It will include displays, photographs and memorabilia to help jog memories and inspire the townsfolk to get involved.

Whether it is experiences of the town during the war or the recent snow, the Okehampton Community Archive would like to hear from residents.

As an example the first show depicts the businesses in the town and the archive would like to know who owned them, worked in them, when they started and where they started, etc.

They want to know how Okehampton has changed, the people and how they have adapted.

Anyone who has any interesting photographs or memorabilia can bring them along to the event, where copying facilities will be available as well as refreshments.

The public meeting will be held today (Thursday) at 10am till 7pm in the Charter Hall.
