CALLING all gardeners, artists and needleworkers — whether you are a novice or an old-hand, the new range of day-courses at The Garden House will inspire you.
The Garden House is a ten acre garden, acclaimed internationally for extraordinary design and use of colour. This reputation has its roots back in the 1940s when Lionel Fortescue, son of a well-known Newlyn painter, bought the house and began gardening by colour.
The art and gardening classes all focus on colour and the seasons. Every course gives you the opportunity to relax and learn new skills in a peaceful setting.
Gardening Masterclasses
Nick Haworth, the head gardener will be hosting masterclasses, as will local garden designer and a trustee of The Garden House, Matt Jackson.
All of their courses give you the opportunity to learn in the ‘classroom’ and out in the garden. Nick’s will cover naturalistic planting, woodland and shade gardening and a masterclass in creating colourful borders.
If you want to know how to get to grips with your borders or design your garden to look ‘naturalistic’ then The Garden House is the place to come!
Can you dig-it?
Fancy creating a no-dig kitchen garden or designing a veg-patch? Learn from Matt in a one day masterclass where he’ll share all the secrets of his life-long-love for the no-dig method. This class is a perfect Father’s Day gift for a gardening dad…
If you need help with landscaping ideas for your garden, join Matt’s design and landscaping class where he’ll be drawing on his experience as head of gardens at Sissinghurst Castle to help you understand the opportunities to make the most of your garden area.
Relaxing Art Classes — starting on April 25
Well-known local artists Richard Mabey and Iain Grant are back by popular demand with a new range of courses. Paint and sketch along with them to create your own garden-based artwork.
It’s such a treat to take time for yourself and learn from these friendly experts. Iain leads the way on April 25 with a pastel and mixed media course, Capturing Spring Colour.
Richard has created new courses that work with his step-by-step method. Whatever your skill level you can paint along with him and learn new techniques - including how to use a matchstick pen and mix watercolour washes.
Meg Beable’s art is a unique blend of fabric, stitches and painting. She returns this year with two new classes, based on seasonal flowers in the garden. Local designer Jay Hooper will be hosting Big Stitch and stumpwork sheep embroidery classes for adults and children.
