FAMILIES and couples from Okehampton and its twinned town, Craon in France, enjoyed a weekend of activities when they took part in an exchange visit recently.

Around 40 residents offered home hospitality during the 33rd exchange, which was hosted by Okehampton and District Twinning Association.

Each year Okehampton and Craon take it in turns to host an exchange, which involves around 80 residents, including families, couples and singles.

This year guests enjoyed a visit to Babbacombe Beach in Torquay, as well as an exchange of speeches in Okehampton Town Hall from the mayor of Okehampton, Cllr Mike Morse and the mayor of Craon, Paul Chaineao.

Guests also enjoyed a barn dance and buffet in Bridestowe village hall and finished off their visit with a friendly cricket match on Sunday, August 29 on Okehampton College sports field.

Chairman of Okehampton and Hamlets Twinning Association, Nike Westman, said the exchange helped people to integrate into each other's lives.

She said: 'There was something for everybody and it all went down really well, it gave people the chance to meet and chat.

'We also paid tribute to Bob Ray, who founded the exchange.

'He passed away in May this year and was well respected in the town.

'He spoke fluent French and was also involved in Okehampton Rotary Club.'
