OKEHAMPTON District Community Transport Group is looking for volunteers to take people to appointments they are unable to get to themselves.

Co-ordinator for Okehampton District Community Transport Group Sue Wonnacott said: 'We are currently experiencing a huge demand for cars to take passengers to medical, hospital and social appointments, following the demise of the hospital car service. 

'We urgently need to recruit some additional volunteer drivers.

'We pay our drivers 45p per mile and also indemnify their no claims bonus and policy excess.'

Drivers with relevant experience can also volunteer to drive the wheelchair-accessible vehicle on trips.
