I NOTICE from your report on the extension of the £2 car parking scheme that Cllr Moody believes that the Riverside Car Park is ‘drastically underused’ and ‘that there are never more than 10-15 cars in there’.

My impression is entirely the opposite — that it is in fact very well-used, with few if any spaces available at peak times, such as Saturday mornings.

However, it would be a great shame if policy were to be based on personal impression or belief, whether Cllr Moody’s or mine, rather than evidence. Perhaps the sophisticated new parking machines could provide objective evidence — no doubt supplemented by detailed information from our zealous and efficient traffic wardens /civil enforcement officers.
