YOUNG carers were treated to a day of fun when they enjoyed a picnic and horse ride last month.

The action-packed day was organised by Okehampton Rotary Club, which sponsored eleven young carers from Okehampton and surrounding area.

The group aged between 7 and 15, set off from Eastlake Riding Stables on Saturday, August 7 and enjoyed a trek across Dartmoor, before stopping for a picnic in Belstone Village Hall.

Okehampton Rotary Club member Nils Westman expressed thanks to the young carers for all they do.

He said: 'It was so good to see all these young people, who give so much of their own time to others, enjoying themselves. Rotary are proud to be associated with this event.'

The next event is due to take place this November.
