THE last village band in Devon celebrates its centenary on Saturday June 25 in the playing fields of Northlew from 2.30pm. If wet, celebrations will be in the Victory Hall.

A feature of the afternoon is to be a musical cake competition — entries should be of any type of cake but in the shape of a musical instrument.  There will be prizes for two categories: adults and young persons (11–18). 

For younger primary school children there will be a competition of paintings or drawings with a musical theme. Put your name and telephone number in a separate envelope, marking it with an age if a child entry.

Apart from the competition there is to be a free hog roast and as well as Northlew there will be visiting bands from Hatherleigh, Okehampton and elsewhere, culminating in a massed band extravaganza,

The silver band of Northlew is financing the event to express their thanks to the community that has supported them for 100 years.
