AT the annual general meeting of Chagford Cricket Club there was a significant change at the top of the order. After four successful years and two promotions, the joint captains, Jerry Christophers and Colin Mortimore stood down. The new captain is another popular figure in Del Lammonby who was the outstanding bowler last season as well as contributing with the bat.

Officers re-elected: Mike Wreford, president; Bryce Rundle, chairman; Jon d'Arch-Smith, secretary; Trudie Rundle, treasurer; Julian Wray, fixture secretary; Simon Snell, second team captain.

The chairman reported that the first team had finished a creditable fifth in their initial season in division B of the Devon League.

The first year with a second XI in the Devon League was spectacular with Simon Snell's men and boys winning 13 of their 16 matches. They topped the Division E by a clear 35 points thanks to the senior players all doing well and it was great to see youngsters Billy Searle and Paul Penberthy play minor parts.

Billy and Paul are entered in the Chris Read Youth Academy sessions. Billy Searle is touring South Africa with Devon U15 XIs and our Scorer Eileen Southern will also be on duty.

The winners of the categories were first XI batting - Gary Sizmur; bowling, Derek Lammonby; second XI battling, Billy Searle; bowling, Steve Sizmur, who also won the league award. Special awards were also made to Simon Snell and Chris Filor. The club now looks forward to another season in division B and following promotion the second XI will be competing in D division West.

The club will also be competing in the local T20 Evening competition which includes Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh, Abbotskerswell, Ipplepen and South Devon, with a full programme of friendly matches against touring sides.

Skippers Del Lammonby and Simon Snell said the club welcomed new players of all abilities with new practices starting shortly.
