Wartime letters inspire Okehampton writer's novelAttack seemed the order of the day and it was the visitors that took an early lead. With just four minutes on the clock their prolific marksman, Tom Sercombe, took advantage of Botham's error to open the scoring.
Two minutes later it fell to Christian Pople to double the advantage.
However, in the face of this rapid salvo, the hosts seemed to raise their game and pressed forward. Much of their best play came from their left flank and the gritty determination of Oscar Emanuel, coupled with the support from Chadwick.
On 11 minutes, Emanuel carried the ball to the goal-line and pulled it back for Robbie Miller to reduce the deficit.
Four minutes later, Chadwick's sublime chip forward was brought down by Scott who laid it into Miller's path for an equaliser.
Getting in behind Watts defence seemed the best tactic and Chagford sought to employ it as much as possible. Watts were equally determined and the home goal seemed to lead a charmed life.
When Cousins' shot was only parried, Sercombe was on hand to put the ball away and the wind appeared to have been knocked out of Chagford. They were rocking at this point and further goals may have sealed the game before half-time. When they did get forward, Gavillet fired his volley over the bar and Scott cursed Bellotti's superb reflex save from his deflected shot.
The second half was played in much the same vein, the match swinging from end to end. It fell to Dan Sprago to seal the result, midway through the half and send Watts into a semi-final tie with division three side Hookhills United.
