A RECENT session of the Cheeky Monkeys toddler group saw mums raising money for charity and encouraging their children to read.

Mums at the group baked and sold cakes for the group's big pink bake off, to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The group lets young children aged nought to five interact, play and build friendships while offering a chance for parents, grandparents and carers to socialise too.

After children have attended ten sessions, they receive some free books as a loyalty bonus to the group. Carole Cornwall from Okehampton Library popped over to the session to present some lucky youngsters with their new books, and talk to adults about the services the library offers.

The group is looking ahead, planning its Cheeky Monkeys Fun and Frolics fundraiser on Saturday, November 16. The evening event will give parents a chance to socialise, and new parents a chance to find out what the group is all about.

There will be an opportunity to enjoy pampering beauty treatments, Christmas stalls, a raffle with some great prizes, and a quiz with the top prize of a Christmas hamper. Tickets cost £5 to include nibbles, raffle and quiz entry and drinks, and are available from Cheeky Monkeys sessions, and Boomerang.

The event takes place in Fairplace Church Hall from 8pm to 11pm.

The Cheeky Monkeys toddler and baby group meets on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am and on Fridays from 1.30pm to 3pm in Fairplace Church Hall during school term time. There are toys, books and craft, with tea and coffee for adults. For more information call Chrissy on 07900 604122.
