TOWN councillor and current deputy mayor Mike Davies was chosen to be the next mayor of Okehampton by the town council at its annual meeting last week.

Cllr Paul Vachon was chosen to be the town's deputy mayor.

The chair and vice-chairs of the policy and resources, parks, planning and property committees were also chosen.

Cllr David Weekes was voted chair of the parks committee with Cllr Kevin Ball as vice-chair.

Outgoing mayor Cllr Maureen McDonald will chair the policy and resources committee, with Cllr Terry Cummings as vice-chair.

Cllr Tony Leech is to chair the planning committee with Cllr Kay Bickley as vice-chair, and Cllr Vachon was picked to chair the property committee with Cllr Jan Goffey as vice-chair.

The civic ceremony of mayor choosing will take place on Wednesday May 16, where Cllr Davies will receive the chain of office from outgoing mayor Cllr McDonald.
