Dawlish ladies 3

Okehampton ladies 5

OKEHAMPTON ladies are now comfortably placed in second place in the hockey league after six league matches.

Okehampton soon showed themselves to be quicker on the ball and using passing to good effect dominated the first half.  Jo Moppet and Kim Davey ran rings around the home defence with good ball control and speed on interception.

Davey made several feeds across the goal mouth but to no avail.  She then passed back to Moppet whose strike caught in the armpit of the prone goalie.  The Oke forward plucked the ball up with her stick, the goalie remaining still, and pushed it the few inches to put the visitors one goal up.

A second goal soon followed with Davey catching a rebound and deflecting it at an awkward angle past the goalie.  None of this would have been possible without the intelligent play of the half line, Tara Davidson, Alex Collins, Louise Weller and Joey Drake - ably backed up by Jane Jones.

At half time Okehampton were still only 2-0 up despite their dominance.

Dawlish started the second half with a more incisive approach that saw some dangerous runs into the circle but still Okehampton dominated.

Oke's Tara Davidson, player of the match, was unlucky not to score when her strike just caught the post.  Her persistence and skill kept getting the ball through to the forwards and Jo Moppet touched the ball at the post to score Okehampton's fourth goal.A burst through by Dawlish led to a strike that hit a defender's stick to rise over everyone's head to give Dawlish their first goal.

A second was scored with a relatively gentle ball that found its way through three defenders who stood in the eye line of goalie Viv Weatherington.

Okehampton came back with greater determination.

Again they were unlucky not to score but were frustrated by the home goalkeeper. The resulting short corner did not lead to a goal but Kim Davey gave Moppett the chance she needed.

It was soon followed by a lovely short corner where again passes around the circle were well controlled and gave Okehampton their fifth.
