A TWO-acre field at Northlew has been offered for allotments, following an appeal by the local community.
For the past decade residents of the village have wanted some land on which to grow fruit and vegetables and now, after an appeal in the local newsletter, it looks like they are going to get their wish.
Vice-chairperson of the new Northlew Allotment Association Morwenna Millership said a farmer had come forward and offered his field which could provide 17 full-size allotments.
'We will probably divide it into some full size and some half size allotments, said Mrs Millership.
'We are also thinking about having a large community area and getting the school involved so the children can have their own patch and maybe do some activities up there.'
She added that the association would also have to look at providing car parking and disabled access.
'We will need to fundraise because allotment rents alone will not be enough,' she said.
'We will be looking at imaginative ways of doing this and seeking out grants.'
With access off a village road, Mrs Millership said the location of the field was ideal.
She said it was a great time to take on a project like this because the ground would be prepared in the autumn and winter and be ready for planting next spring.
The association already has 12 or 13 people interested in plots but would welcome interest from anyone else. They should contact the association secretary Cathy Fethers on 01409 220276.
