The uplifting voices of the Okehampton Community Choir are being heard once again on Sundays at the Ockment Centre, as they rehearse a performance for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
The choir was formed by singing teacher Kerri Hardy as the Okehampton Christmas Choir and the women taking part had such a fantastic time they persuaded Kerri to continue in the New Year, albeit with a name change. ‘They said, we miss it, are you going to carry on? I said, oh all right then,’ says Kerri. ‘It is brilliant because it is really good fun.’
She is now planning a junior ensemble for kids aged seven to 12, Okehampton Voices. A free taster session is being held at the Ockment Centre on Sunday, April 10 between 3 and 3.50pm. The repertoire will include popular songs from f musical theatre and contemporary music.
