THE owners of Hatherleigh Livestock Market are organising a public consultation event.

The meeting is to discuss the market site's future, aimed at obtaining the thoughts and aspirations of those who live in the town and nearby communities.

The market, owned by Vicks auctioneers, attracts visitors to the general market, and farmers' auction. There are also auctions for antiques, household furniture and effects and sundries at the site.

West Devon Borough Councillor Christine Marsh said: 'The owners are keen to retain a market in the town, but it won't be in the same form as before.

'These meetings are designed to let the owners consult with the public and locals, and give their opinions on what they want to happen.'

The meeting takes place at Hatherleigh Community Centre on Thursday July 14 between 1pm and 7pm.

Everyone in the area is encouraged to come along to the event and have their say.
