FOLLOWING popular talks on Steeperton Tin Mine and East Okement Farm, eminent Dartmoor archaeologist and historian Dr Tom Greeves is returning to Belstone Village Hall on Saturday, April 12 with his latest talk.

Dr Greeves' latest talk is entitled 'The Last Copper Miners of North-East Dartmoor: Researching a Unique Legacy'. Copper mining in this area, which ended about 100 years ago, has left a remarkable physical, photographic and documentary legacy. Dr Greeves has always been interested in human stories connected with mining, and his illustrated talk will explore what he learnt about the miners of Ramsley Mine at South Zeal, which closed in 1909, from conversations with some of those who knew them.

Dr Greeves is a world authority on Dartmoor mining, especially tin, having begun his research more than 40 years ago. He has written numerous books and articles on the subject, including Tin Mines and Miners of Dartmoor and The Great Courts of Devon Tinners 1510 and 1710.

He has been chairman of The Dartmoor Society since 1998 and is the co-editor of the Dartmoor online website.

The talk begins at 7.30pm.  Refreshments will be available in the interval and donations will be invited at the end for hall funds.
